Achieving ISO 14001 Certification: A Step Towards A Sustainable Future
In the construction industry, where the environmental impact can be significant, achieving ISO 14001 certification marks a vital step towards sustainability and responsible business practices.
ISO 14001 is an international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO). It provides a framework that organisations can follow to establish, implement, maintain, and improve their environmental management systems. The primary aim of ISO 14001 is to help organisations reduce their environmental footprint, comply with regulations, and continuously improve their environmental performance.
For Dorplan, this includes aspects such as material sourcing, manufacturing processes, waste management, and energy consumption. The manufacturing process for doorsets involves various stages that can significantly impact the environment and achieving this certification shows our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Steps to Achieving ISO 14001 Certification:
- Conduct an Initial Environmental Review: We performed a comprehensive environmental review to identify the significant environmental aspects and impacts of our doorset manufacturing process.
- Set Environmental Objectives and Targets: Based on the initial review, we set clear, specific, and achievable environmental objectives and targets for our doorset manufacturing process.
- Developing the Environmental Management System: Developing our EMS by creating and documenting procedures and processes to manage the identified environmental aspects.
- Implementation and Monitoring: Implementation of our EMS with monitoring and measurement mechanisms to track our environmental performance. These are regularly reviewed and updated procedures to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
- Certification Auditing: Once our EMS is fully implemented and refined, we underwent a certification audit by Citation ISO Certification. This audit assesses our compliance with ISO 14001 standards.
- Continuous Improvement: ISO 14001 emphasises continuous improvement. After achieving certification, we are continuing to monitor, review, and enhance our EMS to improve environmental performance and adapt to changing conditions and regulations.
Achieving ISO 14001 certification is a significant milestone that reflects our dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By following a structured approach and committing to continuous improvement, we not only achieved the certification but also are contributing positively to the environment and society. We can have a significant impact on the environment, including resource depletion, pollution, and habitat destruction. ISO 14001 assists us to adopt practices that mitigate these impacts. In an industry increasingly focused on sustainable practices, ISO 14001 serves as a critical tool for building a greener future.
