Dorplan Passes Triple Scope Smoke Test

Dorplan is pleased to confirm the successful completion of another smoke control test, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to doorset performance, certification, and building safety.

Smoke control is a critical but often underestimated aspect of fire safety. Approximately 80% of fire-related deaths are due not to the airway burn injury itself but to the inhalation of smoke. Smoke spreads rapidly through buildings and compromising escape routes long before flames become a threat. Effective smoke sealing at door openings is therefore essential to slow smoke spread, maintain tenable conditions, and support safe evacuation.

This latest test achievement allows Dorplan to incorporate Triple Scope certification within our doorsets under the BM TRADA Q-Mark scheme, covering fire, smoke, and security performance within a single, certified solution. Triple Scope certification has now become a core requirement under the Secured by Design (SBD) scheme, reflecting a wider industry shift toward more holistic and robust doorset performance.

Historically, Dual Scope certification covering fire and security has been widely accepted. However, regulatory change and industry learning continue to raise the bar. The transition from BS 476 to EN 1634 testing standards, alongside the introduction of the Building Safety Act, has placed greater emphasis on verified performance across all life-safety elements. Smoke control is no longer a secondary consideration. It is a fundamental requirement that must be tested, proven, and correctly integrated into the doorset design.

At Dorplan, we continue to invest in testing, certification, and technical expertise to ensure our doorsets do more than meet minimum compliance. Our focus is on delivering verified performance that reflects where regulation, best practice, and building safety expectations are heading next, not where they have been in the past.
